Does your parish go carol singing? Here is a novel idea. Instead of collecting money as you go from house to house singing carols, give people chocolates or sweets! Be a church that ‘gives’ instead of ‘receives’. At the same time give people Christmas cards listing all the services and events happening in the parish during the Christmas season.
Think about other places where carols might be welcome?
You might sing in a local nursing home. People who cannot remember recent things often remember the words of familiar songs and carols learnt in childhood. Or ask your local pub if they would like singers from the church to come and sing carols one evening? People will join in! Or maybe your local supermarket would welcome carol singing.
These are ways that the message of Christmas can be taken out of the church and into the community.
