Easter Prayers of Intercession (2)

Holy Week and Easter are fading away.
Let us hold onto the story.

On Palm Sunday the crowd was swept along and cheered with excitement.
Father, forgive us for the times we get swept along with the crowd, when we know we are taking the easy way out, the popular way, when we are not prepared to stand alone and hold onto what we know is right.
Lord, help us to constantly check with your plumb line of love to see if the decisions we are taking are leading us along your way or off your path onto another that leads us away from you.

On Maundy Thursday Jesus told his disciples to ‘Do this in remembrance of me’, so making us one body, because we all share the one bread.
Father, in this fragile broken world we so quickly forget that you showed us the way to be one.
Lord, help us to be people of peace who stand together. Help us to stand as one with persecuted Christian communities around the world who live with fear every day.  Be with those who by proclaiming their faith are risking their lives.  We especially remember those in (Names).

On Good Friday at Jesus’ trial Peter denied he knew Jesus three times.
Father, we fail so often, we turn the other way, we choose to forget or deny your love.
Lord of forgiveness, you who will turn and look at us as we fail you and still call us your precious children.  Help all who feel unloved and alone - those who are in prison, who are hungry, who are homeless. Help us to bring them your love and not deny them your message of Good News for all.

On Good Friday we were seemingly left alone in despair: the end, nothing to hope for.
Father, we remember all those who live with despair in their lives, who watch and wait.
Lord, we pray for all who watch those they love when they are ill or dying: parents watching children, children watching parents, as Mary watched Jesus and could do nothing.
Lord, we hold out to you all those who we have been asked to pray for (Names). We pray that they will be surrounded by love and that your healing light will shine upon them.  May they be helped by friends, family and those in the healing professions.

On Easter Saturday Mary ran to the tomb with a heart full of sadness and uncertainty. The cross was empty – the story seemed to be over. But she encountered the risen Lord.
Father we remember all who have died (Names). May they rest in peace, and rise in glory, and may those who love them and miss them know that their end is a new beginning.

On Easter Day the disciples came and saw and believed. Help our unbelief.
Lord of resurrection! Lord of light and hope! Lord of peace and joy!  As we gather here today as your resurrection people remembering the Easter stories, help us to gather the stories up, reflect on what they have taught us and take them out into the world as we move away from Easter, towards the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Holy Week and Easter are fading away.
Let us hold onto the story. Amen.
