Pentecost Biscuits

Make dove-shaped biscuits to have a coffee time. Make a Birthday Cake and have something fizzy to drink to celebrate the Church’s Birthday.

Recipe for Biscuits

Oven Temperature 350ºF 180ºC Gas Mark 4


100g (4oz) butter or margarine
100g (4oz) caster sugar
1 egg, beaten
200g (8oz) plain flour


Grease 2 baking trays.  Cream the butter or margarine and sugar until pale and fluffy.  Add the egg a little at a time, beating after each addition.  Stir in the flour (and spice) and mix to a fairly firm dough.  Knead lightly and roll out 0.5cm (¼ inch) thick on a floured board.  Use dove biscuit cutters to cut shapes out.  Lift onto the greased trays and bake in the top of the oven for 15-20 minutes until firm and very lightly browned.  Leave on the trays to cool for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks. Ice with white glace icing.

This makes about 25 biscuits.
