Lent Evening Prayer (1)
Here is an outline for a very gentle prayer time lasting about 30 minutes.
Create a quiet space with chairs placed in a circle if possible. Place a large lit candle on a table in the centre as a focus surrounded by small stones. Dim the lights, but make sure people can read. Play gentle instrumental music as people gather or suitable classical music, or suitable tracks from one of the Taizé Instrumental CDs. The songs listed can of course be found in other hymn books than those in brackets or you may wish to choose your own.
Song: Led by the Spirit of our God (Laudate)
Canticle: A Song of the Wilderness
Song: O God, you search me (Laudate)
Reading: Luke 4.1-13
Recorded Music: Return to God (Marty Haugen from CD Anthology II)
Time for Reflection
Prayers of Intercession
Prayer Response: Take, O take me as I am (Come all you people)
The Lord’s Prayer
Song: Forty days and forty nights (A&M Hymns and Songs for Refreshing Worship)
During the Time for Reflection people are invited to choose a stone to carry with them during Lent – a symbol both of burden and of wilderness.
